How to Fix your wood watch

In this article, we will cover various topics related to repairing a wooden watch. Firstly, we will discuss how to lengthen or shorten the belt of the wooden watch to ensure that it fits properly on your wrist. Secondly, we will look at how to replace the belt entirely in case we want to change it for another kind of strap. Additionally, we will explore how to fix a broken link in the middle of the strap, which is a common issue with wooden watches. Finally, we will discuss how to fix a broken link next to the clasp, another common issue that can be easily resolved with the right tools and techniques. By the end of this article, you will have a comprehensive understanding of how to repair your wooden watch and keep it in excellent condition.

How to lengthen the strap of your wood watch

The first thing to consider is the direction to remove the pin for adjusting the strap's length. Looking at the watch from the front, the pins above the dial are pulled from right to left, while those below the dial are pulled from left to right. It's crucial to follow this direction as pulling the pin backward can damage the wood.

To lengthen the wooden strap, remove a pin from the top or bottom of the dial, preferably from the side with fewer links to maintain an even length. Then, add an extra link found in the watch case and use another pin from the case to secure it. If two links need to be added, add one link to each side of the strap. To shorten the strap, remove a pin from the top or bottom of the dial, following the same guidelines.

After understanding the correct direction for pin removal mentioned in the previous point, we can proceed to remove two pins from a link, preferably from the longer end of the strap, and take out the extra link. Similar to the previous step, if two links need to be removed, it's better to remove one link from each side of the strap.

How to change the strap

As with the previous steps, it's crucial to pull the pin that fastens the strap to the watch case in the correct direction. Unlike the previous steps, we will remove the metal rod from the tool and manually use the tool to pull the strap in the appropriate direction, as illustrated in the picture below. This is because fitting the watch case into the tool could be challenging, so manual operation is necessary.

After removing the pin and wooden strap, repeat the same process with the other section of the strap. Then, you can replace the strap with a leather or any other type of strap that matches the original size.

How to fix the strap if it is broken from the middle

Just like in the previous cases, we need to remove the two pins of the broken link in the correct direction, which is explained in the section on how to lengthen the strap. After that, we will take out the broken link and substitute it with a new one that can be found in the watch box. Finally, we will secure the new link by reattaching the two pins in the proper direction. It's essential to choose a link from the box that is suitable for the middle of the strap, not one of the end links, which are attached to the clasp and are distinct.

How to fix your wood watch if it is broken from the clasp

Initially, we need to remove the broken link by pulling out the pin in the proper direction, which is explained in the section on how to lengthen the strap, and then substitute it with a new link. It's crucial to make sure that the new link is an end link, which is the one that is attached to the clasp and differs from the rest. For instance, in this photo of the Rosswein women's watch, the link on the right is a link from the middle of the strap, whereas the one on the left is distinct as it is hooked to the watch's clasp.

The left link is the one that connects to the clasp, while the right one is a standard link.

The subsequent image displays the appearance of the new link after fixing the clasp:

It is worth noting that the pin attached to the clasp of the watch may be thinner and shorter compared to the ones located in the middle of the strap, depending on the watch model. Therefore, it is recommended to keep the pins saved for future use, in case they are needed, even if the strap breaks.

The pin at the top is intended for the clasp, while the one at the bottom is meant for the strap.
